The Hyundai Inster costs €25,599 to €36,299 on the Belgian price list of 19 October 2026. The version to buy is the 49 kWh Core at €27,599: the cheapest per kilometre of range in the whole line-up. Beyond that, each trim mostly adds equipment, and the Cross costs €7,700 more without a single extra kilometre.

€25,599 to €36,299: eleven versions on the 19 October price list

Three weeks ago, the Belgian range fitted on nine lines. It now has eleven with a published price.

The survey comes from the Inster price page on Moniteur Automobile, the reference Belgian price guide, checked on 19 October. Ranges are taken from the spec sheets of the same price list, except for the Lounge, announced at about 360 km by Moniteur at its launch. The last column is our own calculation: list price divided by WLTP range, to show what each homologated kilometre costs.

A 42 kWh Urban also appears in the list of versions, with no price shown at the time of the survey. The Pixel Edition comes with four or five seats at the same price; it is the only Inster homologated for five. For the Cross, the price list shows 293 km, whereas every other 49 kWh version sits between 360 and 370 km. I found no Hyundai source confirming or correcting that figure, so I leave it out of the calculation: ask the dealer to clarify it.

42 or 49 kWh: is the €2,000 gap worth it?

Yes. It is the best deal in the range.

For €2,000, the 49 kWh adds 43 km of WLTP range, 18 hp and rapid charging peaking at 85 kW against 73 kW, according to the price-list spec sheets. Each extra kilometre costs €46.51, far less than the average kilometre of the 42 kWh. Hence the best price per kilometre in the range.

The 42 kWh only stands up in town, charged every night at home. For my round trips from Brussels to Namur to see my parents, I would take the 49 without a second thought.

What do the Urban, Lounge, Edge and Cross trims pay for?

Equipment and style. Not range.

From the 49 kWh Core upwards, every version shares the same battery and the same 115 hp motor. The Urban adds €2,900, the Lounge €4,150, the Edge €5,550 and the Cross €7,700. The Lounge, on sale in Belgium from October 2026 according to Moniteur Automobile's announcement of 1 July, focuses on the cabin: fabric and leather upholstery, an exclusive Glow Mint colour, speakers with Kevlar membranes, specific 17-inch wheels. Its announced range, about 360 km, is slightly below the Core's.

The Cross is the hardest to defend. €35,299 is the price of a larger electric compact, and the Inster remains a 3.83 m four-seater with a boot of 238 to 351 litres depending on where the rear bench sits. My advice fits on one line: take the 49 kWh Core, add the heat pump if you have no garage, and stop there.

Inster or Renault 5: which gives more kilometres per euro?

For equal range, the Inster is cheaper. For family use, the Renault 5 keeps the advantage of a fifth seat.

The Renault 5 E-Tech is the direct rival, in the same budget on the Belgian price list. Its range changed at the end of August with a new entry version, the 37 kWh Five at €24,900. The prices below all come from Moniteur Automobile's page on the 2026 Renault 5 and the Inster page, both checked on the same day.

The Inster 49 kWh Core and the Renault 5 52 kWh Evolution come out at almost the same price per homologated kilometre, €74.59 and €75.49. But the Inster costs €3,501 less to buy. The Renault 5 answers with 42 km more range, faster charging and five seats, even if the rear seats are tight. For a couple with one child, the Inster offers more interior space for less money. For a family that sometimes travels five up, the question is settled in advance.

Further down the price scale, our ranking of affordable electric cars recorded a Citroën ë-C3 Urban Range at €20,290 and a Dacia Spring at €16,990 on 14 September. They play in a different league for range and finish.

The same €140.83 benefit in kind for every version

As a company car, the choice of trim costs the employee nothing.

The benefit in kind (ATN, the Belgian taxable benefit on a company car) for an electric car equals the list price multiplied by 4% and then by 6/7, with a floor of €1,690 a year. Even the Cross Sensation at €36,299 only gives €1,244.54 a year under the formula: every Inster therefore lands on the floor, which is €140.83 a month. It would take a list price of €49,292 to get above it, €13,000 more than the most expensive version. The calculation is detailed in our piece on the benefit in kind of an electric company car.

On regional taxes, the price list still shows nothing for the Inster, in any region. Wallonia can be worked out without it: according to the SPW Finances, the Walloon tax administration, the registration tax (TMC) on an electric car falls to its €50 floor and the annual road tax is €107.18 for the period from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. In Flanders, the annual tax has varied from one model to another since the exemption ended, and I will not copy an amount that has not been published for this car.

What real-world range on Belgian journeys?

I have not driven an Inster. The figures below start from the measurements Automobile Propre published in its June 2025 Supertest of the 49 kWh: 14.1 kWh/100 km in mixed use at 14 °C, 20.7 kWh/100 km on the motorway at an average of 115 km/h. For the 42 kWh, I applied the same consumption to the smaller battery, which gives an estimate, not a measurement. The charging window used runs from 80 to 10%, the one you actually use day to day.

In mixed use, the 49 kWh manages about 348 km and the 42 kWh around 300 km. On the motorway, count on 240 and 200 km on a full battery. In January, take off a good quarter more.

List price, stock price: a €1,724 gap in Eupen

The price list is not necessarily what you will pay.

On 19 October, a dealer in Eupen was advertising on Moniteur a new 49 kWh Pixel from stock at €26,625, 5 km on the clock, with a 60-month warranty. That is €1,724 below the €28,349 list price, a 6.1% discount. And on 27 September, Hyundai Belgium's own page already showed « from €23,349 » with a link to its promotions, €2,250 below the price list of the time. Before signing, these are the five points I would check:

  • the exact model year and version written on the order form, since the range has changed twice in three months;
  • whether the heat pump and battery heating are included, as they are options on several trims;
  • the number of homologated seats, four everywhere except on the five-seat Pixel Edition;
  • the WLTP range of the Cross, if that is the one you fancy, since the price list shows an isolated 293 km;
  • the real discount on a stock car, compared with the list price rather than the promotional price.

The full model sheet, with our detailed review, is on the Hyundai Inster page. The comparison tool lets you set it beside a Renault 5 or an ë-C3.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Hyundai Inster cost in Belgium?

On the Moniteur Automobile price list recorded on 19 October 2026, the Inster starts at €25,599 as the 42 kWh Core and rises to €36,299 as the 49 kWh Cross Sensation, VAT included. The 49 kWh Core costs €27,599, the Pixel Edition €28,349 and the new Lounge €31,749. Dealer stock sometimes goes lower: a new Pixel was listed at €26,625 in Eupen on the same day.

Should you choose the 42 or 49 kWh Inster?

The 49 kWh, in almost every case. It costs €2,000 more than the 42 kWh but adds 43 km of WLTP range, 18 hp and faster rapid charging, which makes it cheaper per kilometre. The 42 kWh only makes sense for strictly urban use with home charging.

Is the Hyundai Inster Cross worth the money?

Not in my view. The Cross at €35,299 costs €7,700 more than a 49 kWh Core, with the same battery and the same motor. It adds rugged styling and equipment, but not one kilometre of range, and the price list even gives it a lower WLTP range, a figure to have confirmed by Hyundai.

What is the Hyundai Inster's real-world range?

On the 49 kWh, about 348 km in mixed use in mild weather and 240 km on the motorway at an average of 115 km/h, according to measurements published by Automobile Propre. Applying the same consumption to the 42 kWh gives roughly 300 km mixed and 200 km on the motorway. These figures drop in winter.

Is there a five-seat Hyundai Inster?

Yes, but only one version. The five-seat Pixel Edition, at the same price as the four-seat Pixel (€28,349), is the only one homologated for five occupants on the 19 October 2026 price list. Every other version is a four-seater, a consequence of the 1.61 m width.

Le verdict de Christophe F.

The Hyundai Inster to buy in Belgium is the 49 kWh Core at €27,599: it is the cheapest version per kilometre of range, it charges faster than the 42 kWh and it pays the same minimum benefit in kind as every other version. The higher trims sell comfort and style, never range, and the €35,299 Cross enters the budget of a bigger car. Against the Renault 5 52 kWh, the Inster saves €3,501 for an equivalent price per kilometre; it only loses if you travel five up.
