The MVE manifesto

I bought my first electric car in 2019. Since then I've spent more time debunking myths than actually driving. So I built this site: no sponsored reviews, no copy-pasted spec sheets. Just numbers, field data, and the occasional rant.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions — electric car Belgium

What is the best electric car for Belgium in 2026?

There is no single answer — it depends on use. For families: Tesla Model Y or Skoda Enyaq (>400 km, generous boot). For value for money: VW ID.4 or Renault Mégane E-Tech. For tight budgets: Dacia Spring or Peugeot e-208. Our comparator lets you filter by real criteria: range, price, charging speed.

What real-world range can I expect from an EV in Belgium?

The official WLTP range should be multiplied by ~0.78 for a realistic estimate in Belgian conditions (motorway at 120 km/h, winter, air conditioning). An EV rated at 500 km WLTP delivers about 380 km in mixed conditions, 300 km on motorways in winter.

Are there still purchase incentives for EVs in Belgium in 2026?

Direct grants for private buyers have been scrapped in all three Belgian regions. What remains: very low registration tax (TMC), 100% deductibility for self-employed and companies (final year), and a €3,000 second-hand EV premium in Flanders. See our 2026 incentives guide for region-by-region details.

Can I charge everywhere in Belgium?

The main motorway corridors (E40, E411, E17, E19) are well covered. In cities (Brussels, Ghent, Liège, Antwerp), AC chargers are plentiful. Rural Wallonia and some peri-urban areas are more patchy. With a long-range EV (>350 km real), you rarely need more than one fast-charge stop for a Brussels–North Sea or Brussels–Ardennes trip.
