Our review of the Škoda Enyaq iV 80

The Škoda Enyaq iV 80 is the most rational electric SUV on the market under €50,000. With 410 km of real-world range, 135 kW DC charging and an 82 kWh battery, it covers everything a Belgian family needs without compromise. It isn't the most exciting thing stylistically, but it's probably the most sensible buy in its class — Škoda chose useful over pleasing, and that's exactly right.

Driving & comfort

The Enyaq iV 80 is built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, the same one underpinning the ID.4, the ID.3 and the Audi Q4 e-tron. That solid base translates into calm, predictable driving. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) gives it surprising agility for its size — less pull at the front wheels, so less torque steer when exiting a bend. Ride comfort is excellent on the motorway: at 120 km/h, cabin quiet and sound insulation rival premium saloons. The adaptive dampers (trim-dependent) further improve the comfort/sportiness balance. In town the turning circle is acceptable, but the bulk makes itself felt in covered car parks.

Daily charging

With an 82 kWh battery, full recharges are rare for most drivers. In everyday use of 80 to 120 km/day, a weekly overnight charge on an 11 kW wallbox (7h30 from 20 to 100%) is amply enough. On long trips, the 135 kW DC lets you go from 10 to 80% in 36 minutes — ideal over a lunch break. The charging curve is well optimised and holds its power across a wide state-of-charge range, unlike some rivals that drop off quickly after 50%. The Ionity, Fastned, Electra and Q8 Charge chargers on Belgian motorways are all CCS-compatible.

Total cost of ownership

The Enyaq iV 80 offers one of the best total costs of ownership in its class over 5 years. Its large battery means you can often drive on home charging without using paid public chargers. At €43,990, the value for money is excellent for an SUV of this size and range. VW Group servicing is well spread across Belgium with reasonable lead times. Over 100,000 km, the fuel savings vs an equivalent diesel SUV exceed €8,000, which easily covers the higher purchase price.

Strengths
  • 410 km real-world: enough for 99% of Belgian journeys without charging
  • Large 82 kWh battery: genuine peace of mind day-to-day and on trips
  • Spacious cabin and generous boot (585 L)
  • 135 kW DC charging: 10→80% in 36 minutes
  • Recognised Volkswagen Group build quality
Weaknesses
  • Restrained, undistinctive design — doesn't try to impress
  • Hefty 2,165 kg weight: impacts consumption on climbs
  • No AWD version available at entry level
  • Functional interior but no aesthetic surprises
Our verdict

If you're after the best electric SUV under €50,000 for a family in Belgium, the Enyaq iV 80 is the most level-headed answer on the market. It doesn't try to charm you — it simply gets on with being excellent at everything that really matters: space, range, reliability and total cost over 5 years.

Best for

A family of 4 to 5, a driver covering 100 to 200 km a day, who prioritises space and range over style.

Less suitable if…

A driver after a sporty or premium SUV, a strict budget under €40,000, or someone who cares about brand image.

FAQ

Frequently asked questionsŠkoda Enyaq iV 80

What's the real boot capacity of the Enyaq iV 80?

585 litres in 5-seat configuration, expanding to 1,710 litres with the rear seats folded. It's one of the biggest boots in the compact electric SUV class. The floor is flat and the loading lip low — a concrete advantage for families.

What's the Enyaq iV 80's range in a Belgian winter?

The Enyaq is available with a heat pump depending on trim. In a Belgian winter (0 to 5°C), reckon on 330 to 370 km real-world against the usual 410 km. Thanks to its large 82 kWh battery, even down 20% it's still one of the best winter results in its class.

Is the Enyaq iV 80 suitable for long family holidays?

It's one of the best choices for this use case. Brussels–Côte d'Azur (≈ 1,100 km) needs 2 to 3 DC charges of 30 to 40 minutes each. The large boot swallows suitcases, pushchairs and gear without trouble. CCS chargers are plentiful on the E411 motorway and on the French networks.

What's the difference between the Enyaq iV 80 and the Enyaq iV 60?

The 80 version has an 82 kWh battery (410 km real-world) versus 58 kWh (310 km real-world) for the 60 version, with about €7,000 to €8,000 between them. The 80's premium is justified if you regularly do trips of more than 200 km or want to avoid any range anxiety day-to-day.

Is the Enyaq iV 80 reliable? What about VW Group quality?

The Volkswagen Group's MEB platform has built up several years of owner feedback since the ID.3 in 2020. The overall picture is positive, with a few early-launch software issues now resolved through updates. The Enyaq benefits from Škoda build quality, known for its careful fit and finish and its mechanical reliability.

Can you fit a tow bar to the Enyaq iV 80?

Yes, the Enyaq iV 80 can be fitted with an optional tow bar to tow up to 1,200 kg (braked trailer). That's an advantage over many electric rivals that don't offer this option. Ideal for caravanners or families with a leisure trailer — but note that towing cuts range by 30 to 40%.

Enyaq iV 80 or Volkswagen ID.4: which should you choose?

Both share the same MEB platform. The Enyaq iV 80 is generally cheaper at comparable specs and offers a slightly larger boot. The ID.4 has a more premium VW brand image and a few exclusive trims. For a family after the best value in the class, the Enyaq iV 80 often comes out on top.
