Best electric BYD in Belgium in 2026

In brief

  • Winner: Atto 3 Evo Design, €40,990 on the Belgian list, 510 km WLTP and 220 kW rapid charging, twice the old Atto 3's figure for the same price
  • Longest range: Seal Design, 570 km WLTP at 16.6 kWh/100 km, with just €892 of headroom below the benefit-in-kind floor threshold
  • The list-price trap: the Dolphin Comfort costs €500 more than the Atto 2 Comfort, which charges faster and has a bigger boot
  • Seven models out of eight pay the €140.83 monthly benefit-in-kind floor; only the seven-seat Tang, at €72,000, rises to €205.71

By Christophe F., electric mobility expert ·

The best electric BYD in Belgium is the Atto 3 Evo Design: €40,990 on the BYD Belgium list price recorded on 31 October 2026, 510 km WLTP, about 393 km in real use, a 490 L boot plus a 101 L front trunk, and 220 kW rapid charging. The Seal Design goes further, 570 km WLTP, but costs €7,410 more. The Atto 2 Comfort completes the podium.

BYD currently sells twelve models in Belgium, including three plug-in hybrids and an Atto 3 that can no longer be ordered new. That leaves eight electric cars. For each one I kept the version I would recommend to a friend, starting from the list price rather than the monthly discount: October's offers expire tonight, and the next ones will not necessarily be the same.

Atto 2, Atto 3 Evo or Seal: which BYD should you start with?

The Atto 3 Evo for a family of four: it is the only BYD under €45,000 that combines more than 500 km WLTP, 220 kW charging and 1,500 kg of towing. The Atto 2 Comfort if your budget stops at €35,000. The Seal Design if you mostly drive on the motorway.

The whole range relies on BYD's Blade battery, an LFP (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry, less dense than NMC but very stable and relaxed about full charges. That matters day to day: you can charge to 100% without a second thought. The trade-off shows in winter and at 120 km/h, where an LFP pack loses more than a nickel-based battery.

A word on names. At BYD Belgium, Active and Boost are the entry versions, Comfort the core of the range, Design and Excellence the more powerful versions, often all-wheel drive. Watch out with the Atto 3: the Atto 3 Evo launched this year has kept almost nothing of the old car, neither the battery nor the charging. And the Seal U exists both as an electric car and as a DM-i plug-in hybrid offered from €33,990 after discount: check the order form line carefully.

How do you separate eight electric BYDs?

Seven of the eight cars pay the same benefit-in-kind floor as company cars, so that criterion separates nothing and I removed it from the score, unlike in the Tesla and Volkswagen rankings. Rapid charging rises to 20% instead: from 85 kW on the Dolphin Surf to 220 kW on the Atto 3 Evo, the gap is wider than in any other range.

What holds it back

No complete technical sheet on the Belgian price list on the day of the survey: the 74.8 kWh battery only appears on Moniteur Automobile's summary line, and the towing figure comes from a dealer sheet. The all-wheel-drive Excellence drops to 470 km WLTP for €3,000 more.

Best for

The family of four heading to the Coast or the Ardennes with a bike trailer, who wants to spend less than 25 minutes at the charger on the motorway.

  • BIK floor of €140.83 a month, with €892 of headroom below the threshold

What holds it back

Rapid charging tops out at 150 kW, 70 less than the Atto 3 Evo, which costs €7,410 less. Towing stays limited to 750 kg. And October's €5,082 discount on this version points to fast depreciation on the used market.

Best for

The high-mileage company-car driver who covers Brussels to Luxembourg every week and wants the brand's longest range without paying more benefit in kind.

  • €500 less than the Dolphin Comfort, with more range and more boot

What holds it back

17.4 kWh/100 km on the price list, more than a much heavier Seal. The BYD Belgium page contradicts itself on the boot, 450 L in the spec block and 400 L on another tile. And the Active and Boost versions, at €29,990 and €31,990, drop to 312 km WLTP and 65 kW.

Best for

The couple or small family who charges at home and wants more than 300 real km and a proper boot, on a budget capped at €35,000.

What holds it back

€48,990 on the list, only €302 below the BIK floor threshold: the smallest option pushes it over. 19.9 kWh/100 km on the price list, and 150 kW rapid charging, when the cheaper Atto 3 Evo reaches 220. Sources contradict each other on this rear-wheel-drive version's towing, 750 or 1,500 kg.

Best for

The company-car driver who wants a coupé SUV and a 520 L boot, and accepts ordering the base version with no options.

€72,000, a BIK of €205.71 a month and €1,767 of electricity a year in Wallonia. The boot drops to 235 L with all seven seats in use. No discount published in October, a financing offer dated September, and a consumption figure documented only by foreign sources.

Best for

The family of six or seven who tows a caravan and wants a seven-seat electric car rather than a minibus.

Real-world range = WLTP × 0.77 (mixed Belgian use, winter, motorway 120 km/h). VAT-inclusive list prices recorded on 31 October 2026 on bydauto.be, excluding discounts and delivery costs; the Seal U Design includes the €299 front trunk that BYD adds to the price by default. Type-approved WLTP consumption from the Moniteur Automobile Belgian price list, except the Dolphin (manufacturer sheet) and the Tang (EV Database). Tang boot measured with all seven seats in place. Towing n/a: figure missing from Belgian sources or contradictory on the day of the survey. BIK calculated with the legal formula.

What does a BYD cost in electricity, region by region?

From €999 to €1,767 a year over 15,000 km. The first figure is the Dolphin in Flanders, the second the Tang in Wallonia.

I start from each version's WLTP consumption, divided by 0.77 to stay consistent with the real-world range. I multiply it by 15,000 km, then by the electricity price caps set for the fourth quarter of 2026 by the CREG, the federal energy regulator: 32.25 c€/kWh in Flanders, 36.88 c€ in Brussels, 37.79 c€ in Wallonia.

The figure that matters sits between two SUVs. The Seal U Design uses 20.5 kWh/100 km on the price list, the Atto 3 Evo Design 16.4: over four years in Wallonia, the difference reaches €1,208 of electricity, for a Seal U that already costs €5,799 more to buy and goes less far. The more aerodynamic Sealion 7 does barely better than the Seal U, at 19.9 kWh.

Which electric BYD costs the least benefit in kind as a company car?

Seven models out of eight pay the €140.83 monthly floor, from the Dolphin Surf to the Sealion 7. All of them stay below €49,292 of list value. The Sealion 7 Comfort clears it with only €302 to spare: the first paid option pushes it off the floor.

The 2026 formula stays simple: list value × 4% × 6/7, with a €1,690 yearly floor. The Tang Flagship, at €72,000, comes out at €205.71 a month, which is €779 more benefit in kind (BIK, known locally as ATN) per year than any other BYD. The Seal Design clears the threshold with €892 of headroom, the Seal U Design with €2,503, front trunk included.

One detail matters for fleet managers: the commercial discount BYD Belgium advertises each month is reserved for private buyers. For a company car, the list price is the basis for the BIK, whatever price is actually paid. On regional taxes, Wallonia charges €107.18 of annual tax on every electric car from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027; our model sheets record a €50 registration tax (TMC) in Wallonia for the Dolphin Surf and the Seal.

Simulate TCO →

Should you buy a BYD during a monthly discount?

Yes, if it lands on the model you want. In October 2026, BYD Belgium took €833 to €6,694 off the list price depending on the version, for private buyers only. These discounts expire on 31 October.

The gaps from one model to the next are huge. The Seal Design went from €48,400 to €43,318, a €5,082 discount of more than 10%; the Atto 3 Evo Design from €40,990 to €37,301; the Seal U Design from €46,789 to €42,605. The Dolphin Surf Boost lost only €833, and BYD's page showed two different discounted prices for it, €22,838 and €22,957. The Dolphin and the Tang had no published discount.

My advice: negotiate from the list price, and treat the monthly discount as a floor, not a favour. A brand that takes 10% off its flagship saloon every month builds in fast depreciation on the used market, and the first owner pays for it. As a four-year company car, the question does not arise: resale is not your problem.

Four BYDs left out of the ranking, and why

  • Previous-generation Atto 3: BYD Belgium states that no new ones can be ordered any more. Only dealer stock remains, at €38,990 in Comfort and €40,990 in Design, the price of an Atto 3 Evo Design that goes 90 km WLTP further and charges twice as fast.
  • Atto 2 DM-i, Seal U DM-i and Seal 6 DM-i: these are plug-in hybrids, from €25,703, €33,990 and €29,950 after discount. This site covers fully electric cars.
  • Seal Excellence and Sealion 7 Excellence: €53,550 and €56,490 on the list, above the benefit-in-kind floor threshold, for 390 kW cars nobody needs on the E40. The Seal Design and the Sealion 7 Comfort represent their models better.
  • Han and Seagull: the Han is not offered on the BYD Belgium website on the day of the survey. Seagull is the Chinese name of the Dolphin Surf, ranked here.

Where do these figures come from?

List prices, monthly discounts, WLTP ranges, charging power and boot volumes come from the BYD Belgium model pages, recorded on 31 October 2026. Type-approved consumption and battery capacities come from the Moniteur Automobile Belgian price list, supplemented by EV Database for the Tang and towing. Electricity price caps come from the CREG. The questions to ask before ordering a BYD

Answers with numbers, recorded in Belgium

Which is the best electric BYD in Belgium?
The Atto 3 Evo Design, at €40,990 on the BYD Belgium list price recorded on 31 October 2026. It claims 510 km WLTP, about 393 km in real use, charges at 220 kW and tows 1,500 kg, while paying the €140.83 monthly benefit-in-kind floor. If you mostly drive on the motorway, the Seal Design goes further; if your budget stops at €35,000, the Atto 2 Comfort is the best choice.
What is the cheapest electric BYD in Belgium?
The Dolphin Surf Active, at €21,440 on the Belgian list, brought down to €20,261 by the October 2026 discount. It makes do with 30 kWh, 220 km WLTP and 65 kW rapid charging. The Boost at €23,790 makes more sense: 43.2 kWh, 322 km WLTP and 85 kW.
Atto 2 or Dolphin: which should you choose?
The Atto 2 Comfort, at list price. It costs €34,990 against €35,490 for the Dolphin Comfort, claims 430 km WLTP against 427, charges at 155 kW against 110 and offers a 450 L boot against 364. The Dolphin keeps the edge on consumption, 15.9 kWh/100 km against 17.4, and can become attractive if a dealer offers one from stock with a big discount.
What is the difference between the Atto 3 and the Atto 3 Evo?
Almost everything, for the same price. In Design trim, both show €40,990 on the list, but the Atto 3 Evo claims 510 km WLTP against 420, charges at 220 kW against 110 and adds a 101 L front trunk. BYD Belgium states that no previous-generation Atto 3 can be ordered new any more: only buy a stock Atto 3 with a discount that makes up for that gap.
Which electric BYD has the longest range?
The Seal Design, with 570 km WLTP according to BYD Belgium, or about 439 km in mixed Belgian use with motorway driving and heating. It uses 16.6 kWh/100 km on the price list. The Tang claims 530 km thanks to a 108.8 kWh battery, but uses 24 kWh/100 km.
Can electric BYDs tow a caravan?
Three of them, really. The Atto 3 Evo and the Tang tow 1,500 kg braked, the electric Seal U 1,300 kg. The Atto 2 and the Seal are limited to 750 kg, just enough for a small trailer. For the Dolphin, the Dolphin Surf and the Sealion 7 Comfort, we found no reliable Belgian figure on the day of the survey: ask for the certificate of conformity before ordering a tow bar.
What warranty does BYD offer in Belgium?
According to the model sheets we keep up to date, BYD covers the car for 6 years or 150,000 km and the Blade battery for 8 years, with a mileage cap that varies by model, from 200,000 km on the Dolphin Surf to 250,000 km on the Seal. BYD Belgium also advertises a two-year service interval. Check the exact terms on the BYD Belgium warranty page before signing.
