Our review of the Peugeot e-208

The Peugeot e-208 strikes the perfect balance between a premium city car and an everyday runabout. At €32,490 it delivers 290 km of real-world range, 100 kW DC charging and a polished cabin with the i-Cockpit. It's aimed at urban drivers who refuse to sacrifice style or comfort just to keep the budget low. In its price bracket, it's the most rounded electric city car on the Belgian market.

Driving & comfort

From behind the wheel, the e-208 shows real character. The steering is precise and reassuring, and the chassis soaks up the imperfections of Belgian roads without ever feeling soft. In Normal mode the drive is smooth and relaxed; in Sport mode the 136 hp make themselves felt with a sharpness that's surprising for a city car. The i-Cockpit — that small steering wheel and the high-set instrument display — is divisive at first, but you get used to it quickly. The driving position is low and sporty, and rear visibility is the only real reservation: take the time to get familiar with the parking aids.

Daily charging

At 11 kW AC, the e-208 fully recharges in under 5h30 on a home wallbox — plug it in when you get home in the evening and it's full by morning. On a public DC charger (100 kW), the 27 minutes from 10 to 80% make for genuine top-up charging over a lunch or while running errands. In practice, most owners only charge on the home wallbox and use public chargers solely on trips outside their routine. The Ionity and Fastned networks, along with partner Peugeot chargers, cover Belgium's main routes well.

Total cost of ownership

Over 5 years and 50,000 km, the e-208 proves competitive against a top-spec petrol 208. The higher purchase price (≈ €8,000 vs the 208 PureTech 100) is offset by fuel savings (≈ €800 of electricity/year vs €1,500 of petrol), lighter maintenance (no oil changes, simpler drivetrain) and a much-reduced TMC (registration tax). Estimated break-even point: 4 to 5 years for a driver covering 15,000 km/year. The company-car tax advantage remains decisive for the self-employed and businesses.

Strengths
  • 290 km real-world: enough for 95% of Belgian journeys without charging
  • 100 kW DC charging: 10→80% in just 27 minutes
  • Exterior design and i-Cockpit among the best in the class
  • Head-up display available on some trims
  • Very low TMC (registration tax) at registration
Weaknesses
  • Price clearly higher than entry-level rivals
  • Boot limited to 265 L — the smallest in its class
  • Heat pump is a paid option (useful for the Belgian winter)
  • At 1,530 kg, on the heavy side for a city car
Our verdict

The e-208 is the best premium electric city car on the Belgian market. Choose it if you value French design, on-board technology and real-world range that's amply sufficient for mixed driving. If you're mainly after raw value for money, compare it seriously with the Renault 5 E-Tech before deciding.

Best for

An urban and suburban driver who cares about style, with home-to-work commutes of up to 200 km a day, and who appreciates on-board tech.

Less suitable if…

A family of 4+ with serious boot-space needs, or drivers regularly covering more than 250 km in one go.

FAQ

Frequently asked questionsPeugeot e-208

What's the real-world range of the Peugeot e-208 in Belgium?

The Peugeot e-208 is rated at 400 km WLTP, but in real Belgian conditions (winter, mixed city/motorway) range sits between 260 and 310 km. At 120 km/h on the motorway, reckon on more like 220 to 250 km. On an urban cycle, you can top 340 km.

Does the Peugeot e-208 charge via CCS or Type 2?

Both. It takes AC charging via Type 2 up to 11 kW (5h30 for a full charge on a wallbox) and DC charging via CCS up to 100 kW (27 minutes from 10 to 80%). The Ionity, Fastned and Electra motorway chargers are all compatible.

What's the difference between the Peugeot e-208 and the Renault 5 E-Tech?

The e-208 offers a more premium interior and a bolder design. The Renault 5 E-Tech has a bigger boot and a more practical everyday approach. The e-208 charges slightly faster on DC (100 kW vs 80 kW for the R5). The choice comes down to your priorities: style vs. practicality.

Is the Peugeot e-208 suitable for holiday trips?

For trips up to 500 km with a fast charge on the way, yes. On Belgian and French motorways, fast DC chargers let you charge from 10 to 80% in 27 minutes. Plan your route with an app like ABRP or Chargemap to find compatible chargers.

Is the heat pump essential on the Peugeot e-208?

It's strongly recommended for winter use in Belgium. Without a heat pump, the resistive heater draws directly from the battery and can cut range by 25 to 35% in cold weather. With the heat pump (option ≈ €800), the winter loss is limited to 15-20%. For a new purchase, build it into your configuration.

What's the resale value of the Peugeot e-208?

Good for its class. 2021-2022 e-208s resell for between €18,000 and €22,000 in Belgium depending on mileage and trim, a smaller depreciation than many EVs of the same generation. The Peugeot badge and the model's popularity support its value on the used market.

Does the Peugeot e-208 support bidirectional charging (V2G)?

No. The current e-208 supports neither V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) nor V2L (Vehicle-to-Load). It's a limitation of the current platform. If this feature matters to you, look instead at the Hyundai IONIQ 6 or the Kia EV6, which support V2L natively.
